Filed to Sports Journey, Loudoun County, Va. – The Washington Redskins announced that they have signed free agent safety Akeem Davis. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Interestingly, a few days after the signing, it was rumored that the contract between Davis and the Redskins was in trouble… that the league had disapproved it. Not long after, The National Football Post reported that the contract was refiled and everything was a “go.”

There is no official word on what the trouble with the initial contract was.

Davis (6-1, 200) played collegiately at the University of Memphis from 2008-12 after spending his freshman season in 2007 at Jones County Junior College in Ellisville, Miss. As a Tiger, he played in 34 career games with 27 starts and was twice named a team captain. During that time, he recorded 162 career tackles (13 for loss), three interceptions, 2.5 sacks, five forced fumbles and seven fumble recoveries.

While Davis has not played in any professional football game, he was listed on the Seattle Seahawks’ rookie minicamp roster in 2013.

The safety, 24, attended Laurel (Miss.) H.S., where he started at cornerback as a sophomore and started at quarterback as a junior and senior. He threw for more than 2,600 yards and rushed for 926 yards en route to a 4A state championship as a senior in 2007. Davis was born on Dec. 25, 1989.

Hail.
