90 Year Old Redskins Fan

Richmond, VADiane Roberts and the Washington Redskins really made one fan’s day Monday when they helped a Silver Spring woman celebrate a milestone birthday while she was visiting her favorite team’s training camp.

Roberts, who is with WUSA*9, was in Richmond covering the practice and found Melba Jackson in one of the tents with a sign that read: “Spending my 90th birthday with my team!” She alerted Tony Wyllie, Senior Vice President, Communications, about it and he set some wheels in motion that will stay in Jackson’s memories forever.

Wyllie thoughtfully made arrangements for team owner Dan Snyder, President and General Manager Bruce Allen, quarterback Robert Griffin, III and a host of other players to take a few minutes to wish Jackson a happy birthday. Snyder and Allen spent a few minutes chatting, taking pictures and autographed her birthday sign. Griffin, DeAngelo Hall, Alfred Morris, Darrel Young and several other players also stopped by, doing the same. In Griffin’s case, since she was wearing a number 10 jersey, that is what Griffin signed.

Roberts’ really made Jackson’s day by being observant and taking a minute to let the PR staff know about the birthday. And Wyllie’s efforts gave this lovely lady and her kids some wonderful memories and a great story to pass along to the rest of their family.

As Diane Roberts wrote in her story WUSA: Happy Birthday Melba! HTTR!

Hail.
