Redskins Sign Brandon Scherff

Ashburn, Va. – Washington Redskins General Scot McCloughan worked his magic during this past 2015 NFL Draft and after. He and President Bruce Allen eventually got their first-round pick, offensive tackle/guard Brandon Scherff signed. The contract was for four years, $21,215,638 (guaranteed) million including signing bonus of approximately $13,689,555 million which will make him an unrestricted free agent in 2019.

With Scherff’s signing, all 10 of the Redskins’ selections from the draft are now under contract. This is important going into this weekend’s Rookie minicamp. Not one of the guys drafted will have to think about contract negotiations but rather just getting to know their coaches, their teammates and keeping their jobs.

None of this should be a surprise. The combination of McCloughan and Allen working together with a common goal and the most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement; most of the guesswork and negotiation was taken out of the picture for the rookies.

Scherff (6-5, 319) started 36 of the 43 games in which he appeared at Iowa. In 2014, he received the Outland Trophy, given annually to the nation’s most outstanding interior lineman. Scherff earned unanimous consensus All-American honors and was named first-team All-Big Ten for the second consecutive season. He also won the Rimington-Pace Offensive Lineman of the Year award in the Big Ten Conference.
