Washington D.C. could soon become known not only as the home of “The Capital of the World” but also the home of the Most Valuable Player in the National League of Major League Baseball. That’s right, if Bryce Harper keeps this historic record-shattering season going, the twenty-two year old phenom could become the first Nationals NL MVP in team history.

Harper’s Stats Under the Microscope:

139 –  To give you an idea of how insane Harper’s season is progressing in 2015; it took him 139 games his rookie year to hit 22 homers, which was his highest career total of home runs in one season to date. So far this season he has 24 home runs and has only played 68 games.

55 –  Harper is on track to shatter his career total of 55 home runs, which took three years to accumulate prior to this record-breaking season. His new career total stands at 79 and we are close to half way done with the year. The outfielder is projected to be hitting his 100th home run in 2015.

30%   –  After playing three and a half seasons, Harper has hit thirty-percent of his career home run total this season, in only 68 games. Which averages out to hitting a home run every 2.83 games or three games rounded up. To put this season into perspective, prior to this year, for his career he was averaging a home run every 6.5 games.

9,200,000 –  That’s how many people have voted for Bryce Harper to start in next month’s All-Star game, which set a record for the most votes received by any baseball player ever in MLB history. It’s also been a record year for voters as well, with over 420 million people voting on who starts in the 2015 All-Star game hosted by the Cincinnati Reds of Ohio.

Since being drafted with the first overall selection in the 2010 MLB Draft, Harper has developed into the All-Star slugger he was so heavily projected to become. His maturation and passion to win have been combined with an amazing array of talent and pure physical power. This gives the Nationals arguably one of the best pure hitters the league has seen since “The Great Bambino” (also commonly known as the legendary Babe Ruth).

All of the stars are aligning for this All-Star-hitting-machine and his Washington Nationals in 2015. Harper, who is hitting his prime in full stride, is due an MVP title and should continue to light up the sky with explosive homers, electrifying Washington D.C. and fans nationwide.
