Ashburn, Va. – The Washington Redskins know who they will face during the preseason now that the National Football league has announced the schedule for 2016.

The Atlanta Falcons host Washington for the first of the four games. Then the Burgundy & Gold have back-to-back home games; first against the New York Jets and then hosting the Buffalo Bills. The final game for the Redskins is against the familiar Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

While the specific times for these games have not yet been announced, all will be shown locally on NBC4 and Comcast SportsNet. They can be heard on the Redskins Radio Network.

The Redskins’ opener against Atlanta will be the first time since 2004 that the two teams have played each other during the preseason. In those games, Washington holds a 10-5 advantage.

Hosting the Jets in their preseason home opener will mark the 10th times the two teams have played before the regular season. Washington has won each of the last two of those meetings, including the most recent in 2010.

As the Redskins host the Bills in Week 3 of the preseason, it will be the first time they’ve played each other before the regular season since the same game in 2013. Washington won that contest 30-7, also at home. Last year, Washington beat Buffalo 35-25 in Week 15 of the regular season.

The Redskins close out their preseason down in Tampa Bay Thursday, Sept. 1.

The NFL seems to schedule a lot of matchups between these two teams… they have met in four consecutive preseason finales from 2011 to 2014 and Washington has won all four. Last year, the two ballclubs played in the regular season and most fans will recall that it was the “Code Red” game in which quarterback Kirk Cousins engineered a come-from-behind victory, overcoming a 24-0 deficit. It was the largest such win franchise history.
