The Washington Redskins have announced that their annual Fan Appreciation Day practice, which takes place during training camp, has changed from noon to 10:35 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 2.
Fo the second year in a row, the team’s training camp will take place at Bon Secours Washington Redskins Training Center in Richmond, Va., away from their facility in Ashburn. While more of a distance for many fans to go to attend the practices, this is what long-long-time Redskins fans are more used to.
For many years — specifically 1963 to 1994 — the players went away to Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa. for the grueling two-and-a-half-week period. Then from 1995 to 1999, they held the practices at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Md. After current owner Dan Snyder bought the team in 1999, training camp was moved back to Ashburn. It remained at Redskins Park from 2000 to 2012, after which former head coach Mike Shanahan finally got his wish to move training camp away from “home,” hence the inaugural Bon Secours training camp in Richmond, Va.
